14 febbraio Elise Muller - BiographyElise Muller
Elise Muller's artwork has evolved over the years. Her formal art training in Dublin, Ireland taught her Art, Design, and Mixed Media. When she returned to Canada to take Fine Art at McMaster University she studied Painting, Printmaking, Drawing, and Sculpture. She loved all the art forms and had a Solo Show called "Interconnections" at the Hamilton Public Library in 1999. In 2001, when her first daughter was a toddler, she took Stone Carving at the Haliburton School of Art and realized she had found her focus as a Stone Sculptor. Since then, Elise has displayed her sculptures in shows, sold many pieces and has received many commissions.
Elise works in a variety of stone but favours Alabaster for interior sculptures and Haliburton Dolomite for exterior sculptures. Her pieces are normally figurative, expressing emotions in stylized forms. This spring, Elise took the Expressive Arts Post Graduate Certificate at the Fleming College so she might help others access their creativity. Elise works for the YWCA as a facilitator for the Girlz Unplugged program as well as conducting Stone Carving workshops and Expressive Arts work through her business Stone Tree Studio. Stone Tree Studio is where Elise's stone sculptures and her husband Cirvan Hamilton's fine wooden furniture are made and displayed near Dorset, Ontario.

Blacksmith
Changing an art medium is quite an unique and tremendously rewarding experience. From pencil and pen to "steel". I finally found the medium where I can express myself to the fullest, or maybe it found me.
Sketching has always driven me to keep my artistic energy alive: using pencils, pen, ink, charcoal, I always felt something was missing, I couldn't figure it out, until 9 years ago.
In 2001, I studied Blacksmithing at Sir Sanford Fleming College, upon completion of this course I worked for a blacksmith shop and continued to critique my art. Previous to my blacksmithing career, I lived and worked in the Toronto area while cottaging in Muskoka. Twenty-five years ago we decided to move to Muskoka and make the north our home. We have never looked back, appreciating everyday the wonders Muskoka presents to us.
Finding new ideas to create in steel is a wonderful challenge: from decorative sign brackets, flowers, tables, lights, candles, garden art, mirrors, wall hangings, just to name a few. The more I see, the more I create. Hoping you enjoy this art form as much as I do.
With regards,
Deb Harkness
